Ice Bluffs

Although I have never had the pleasure of travelling to the Arctic, I felt like I had a small taste of what that environment was like during the winter of 2014 on Lake Ontario. The winter of 2014 was extremely cold and lead to the Great Lake’s freezing to a higher degree than most years. Lake Ontario, which usually does not freeze to a high percentage, did freeze quite heavily this year. This provided many opportunities for photography, and I found myself making many visits to the shoreline, either in early morning or later in the day. In this photo I walked, with cleats to the edge of the shoreline ice and photographed the structure of the thick ice along the shoreline. The rising sun provided a cool blue, orange light that highlighted the ice, water and sky.
